Long-Trading Portfolio Update For Week Ending March 1

The Long-Trading Portfolio continues to take it on the chin. For the most recently ended week, the portfolio lost 5.4% in value, or a relative loss of 5.6%. The poor performance showing was mainly due to the decline in the coal stocks, many of which are retracing much of gains from the lows. I continue to think that these stocks are putting in a bottom, and it will be just a waiting game.

The chart above shows the performance track of the portfolio (blue line) versus the S&P 500 (green) and the NASDAQ (brown). The portfolio remains underwater year-to-date, with a 15% loss or 21.5% on a relative basis. Additionally, the portfolio is down 3.8% since inception, or 9.1% relative to the S&P 500.
