Trading portfolio update for week ending 10/19/12

For the week ended October 19th, the long trading portfolio traded up nearly 4%, as compared to a 0.3% gain in the S&P 500. This was on the back of the strong performance out of the coal space, as both Arch Coal and Alpha Natural Resources traded up sharply. The portfolio finished the week at a value $11.36.

The short trading portfolio traded down about 0.4% for week ended October 19, trading to $10.07. The mortgage REIT sector bounced slightly while the Spider Homebuilders trust (ticker XHB) also traded up on the week. These losses were partially offset by the sizable gains in the QQQ short, oil, and gold, all finishing the week on a positive note.
