Although crop and other agricultural commodity prices have largely flatlined since their summer rise, I wonder if the current escalation in the Arab countries has something to do with rising food costs.
Remember that the initial Arab Spring revolution began due to protests around food costs. I had previously warned about this scenario back in mid July here. Then I see stories such as this out Reuters, detailing riots spreading across the Middle East. Of course there is more going on here than just food costs, but content people rarely riot.
